SCHLAG DUTCH METAL 25 GOLD TRANSFER SHEETS

Imitation gold leaf (also known as schlagmetal or Dutch metal) is a metal leaf made from a brass alloy that has been hammered into very fine sheets for use in gilding. It is a cost-effective alternative to genuine gold leaf, offering much the same colour and lustre for less money. Supplied as transfer leaf in booklets of 25, where each leaf has been pressed firmly to specially treated tissue paper which is separated by sheets of rouge paper. The leaf will stay adhered to backing paper when removed from the book making it suitable for outdoor work or any other situation where loose leaf would be unmanageable or at risk of blowing away. 
To apply the leaf, it is pressed to the sized surface face down before peeling away the backing paper to leave the leaf on the surface. Transfer leaf is best suited for gilding flat areas.
Apply a waterbased size (glue) to the surface being covered and wait 15 minutes for it to go tacky before applying the gold leaf.
Imitation gold leaf will tarnish over time and requires sealing to protect it, especially if the leaf is to be used outdoors or if the gilding is to be touched or handled regularly.
